Beauty is in the Eye Treasury...4

I got another treasury, this time on Treasury West. I know it was going to open up around 9:45 so I got over there and waited. Of course with 2 windows open, because I hate to just sit and do nothing. When I got it I had to decide my inspiration piece. For my last treasuries, I've been choosing an "Inspiration" piece from my shop, and then finding listings that fit that theme. Today my inspiration piece was this one:

Fuzzy Wuzzy Pink, Purple and Green with Dangle Fiber Bookmark-Gold Dangle

So I decided to do a search for Pink, Purple and green. And this is what I came up with!!

Some MORE “Make It Yourself” Gift Ideas...2

Back on 9/12/08, I posted about how my family has a homemade christmas. Then I posted with some gift ideas here. These were ideas for making pendants and scrabble tile necklaces.

Today I want to focus on wet and needle felting. I will admit that I haven't tried to make the pendants, but I have tried wet and needle felting. I purchased a kit off of etsy.com and while I didn't enjoy needle felting I really like wet felting.

You may ask why didn't I enjoy needle felting. Well, I like to do my crafting at night in the living room while the family is watching tv. It was a little difficult to needle felt with a sharp, sharp needle while baby D is trying to get onto my lap.

I do enjoy wet felting. I enjoy the processes of layering the wool, getting it wet and rubbing, rolling and rinsing. Plus there are enough steps that I can start and get interrupted without problems.

Soooo Drum roll please....here are some choices for felting kits. These can be used as a gift for the holidays or for you to make something to give for the holidays. Please enjoy and thanks for visiting!!

Beauty is in the Eye Treasury.....3

I just happened to check the Treasury tonight on Etsy.com and there was 15 minutes until the next one opened up. If you want to learn more about Etsy.com and its Treasuries here is an older post about them.

So I waited. I didn't even think about what my theme would be. I'm the type of person that works better under pressure, so I waited until I knew I had one before I thought about a theme.

So I went into my shop and picked an item that I would use for inspiration. And this was it! These colors are so warm and fall like, that even though we are having unseasonably warm weather now, I just had to pick these colors.

Orange and Brown Beaded Bookmark with Semiprecious Stones

Then I went about searching for orange and brown and finding suitable listings. Some I chose because their photos jumped out at me and some I chose because their names jumped out at me. All this blog jumping I've been doing, has made me familiar with many more store names.

I hope you enjoy this treasury!! Here is the link to the actual treasury.

Coming Soon!

According to CB from GiftsEtc.etsy.com and skincandy.etsy.com "Owls" are the next big thing. I've heard that before and seem to see them all over the place. And not just outside my window at night! I'll have to see about putting together an etsy owl preview for an up-coming post!

What else is the "next big thing"? Any ideas?

I've Been Featured!

After I created my last treasury, I email a few of the shops that I had chosen. I was sooo excited to get a reply from owner of http://www.cricketscreations.etsy.com She thanked me for choosing her scarf and also said the she wrote a feature for me on her blog.

She is such a talented artist, and I truly envy her selection of funky fibers and such. She has also been so beneficial in the forums when people have asked questions about going into shops and boutiques. This is how she has described carrying in her scarves into a new shop to show them her products. "I bring them in dangling on colored, plastic hangers. I carry them high like they're trophy pelts or something (well, so they won't drag on the ground, actually, but it definitely draws attention)."

That is probably my most favorite thing that I have ever heard. And the best part is, that she says it works. So not only do I have to thank her for the feature, but also her words on advise for business on and off of etsy!!

Thank you!!

Wouldn't you know!

Today I was able to put up a table at a "meet and greet" at the building my day job is at. A co-worker and I advertised the organization while also selling our wares. There was not a lot of people, but I did sell some things.

In my last post, I mentioned that the Jasper Bookmark is probably my favorite, and I wouldn't mind if I never sell it.....Well, guess what! I sold it!

I could be sad, but I sold it to a 10 year old boy who probably picked it up and looked at it 10 times during the day. It was the very first thing he picked up when he walked over to our table. And he kept on coming back.

I have to say that I really like it when parents watch their kids and know what they like. His mother could have said no, but she wants him to read and if this bookmark will get him thinking more about reading, that is good.

So my "inspiration" piece is now gone!

My second treasury of the week!!

I did not plan on the topic this week being etsy.com Treasuries. But you know how it is. Every once in awhile the mind goes off on a tangent, and you get stuck doing something over and over again. I had so much fun with my earlier treasury, that when I noticed that Treasury West was opening up, I just had to try to get one. I didn't have to wait very long and the box popped up. I decided to name it the same as my last one, with a #2. to here is Beauty is in the Eye...#2

I decided that once again I needed an inspiration piece. I really love this bookmark of mine. I will not be disappointed if it never sells, I like it so much.

I just really like how the Silver Leaf Jasper goes so well with the silver, black and grey; so that's what I did my search for "silver, black, grey" on etsy.com. And came up with all the beautiful pieces in the treasury. Some I came up with randomly. Others I did search for and find something in their shop that fit my theme. You know, you always have those favorite sellers!!

Here is the list of sellers from left to right, top to bottom.

The Best Laid Plans!

I had planned to be home in time to try to get a Treasury, but that didn't quite work out. By the time I got home tonight it was 7pm. Yeap, I missed it by quite a bit. Did anyone else get a Treasury. If you did, I would love to know. I would be willing to feature you on this blog. Just let me know.

How Can I Time This Treasury Getting Deal!!

I really want to get another Etsy.com Treasury. So it is right it is 11:15 Central time. When I look at the above Etsy screen shot you will see that there are currently 367 treasuries. Before the Treasury opens up, this number has to get to 333. So 33 treasuries have to end. If I sort them by expiration time, and from the end count back 34 treasuries, you will see that the 333rd treasury will expire in 6 hours.

I am at work right now. In 6 hours it will be 5:15pm Central time. Right after I get home from work. I think I can power up my computer and MAYBE, JUST MAYBE be online by the time the new treasuries open up.

As a reminder if anyone else wants to get a treasury, you scroll to the bottom of your page. Then let it sit. You are going to want to refresh but DON'T. Once it decides to let people get a treasury, a box wil open up for you to title and click create.

I will say it again. When waiting for a treasury, do not refresh. It will look like it's not working, but it really is.

Good Luck to those waiting. I'll let you know if I get one and let me know if you get one. ;-)

I've created a treasury!

This weekend I was in the forum at etsy.com and I saw a post that said the treasury was about to open up. I high-tailed my browser over there and a few seconds later the window opened up and I got a treasury. Whoo-Hoo. Fortunately, while the page was loaded I thought about what I would choose if I happened to get one. I decided on the title: Beauty is in the eye... I figured since I didn't have any idea what my theme was going to be, this title left it very open.

Once I knew I had the treasury, I started searching for which listings to include. Because it's turning into fall, I did a search for the colors red, orange and brown. That search found this listing.

Thank you easternsky!! Because I decided to build off of the colors of the top bracelet. Eventually finding the following sites from left to right, top to bottom.

So far, my treasury has 71 views, 118 clicks, and 18 comments. If you are interested in any of the items you see in this photo, take a look at the shops, because these choices are just one of many in each of these shops.

Talk to everyone later!!

Creating an ETSY buzz!

As you can see from my title and my two new charts on the left, it is time to start creating a buzz about Etsy. Etsy.com is a cool website whose tag line is "Your place to buy and sell all things handmade". Etsy has been around for a few years now and is gathering momentum as a world-wide site to purchase handmade, vintage and supplies.

Always Amy
has an updated video to show you some of the neat things that can be found at etsy. So if you have a few minutes, please take the time to look at this video and let us know what you think. It's found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmXJXYHnWPo

Thanks for visiting and checking out the video!!

Crafting Xmas Gifts

For years, my extended family of my 3 sisters and my parents have had a homemade xmas. We had all reached the point where we had our homes, most of us had children, and really, none of us needed your standard xmas presents. Plus when you counted everyone up, it totaled a lot of people.

  • 4 children and each of their spouses = 8
  • 1 sister has 3 children = 3
  • I have 4 children then = 4
  • 1 sister has 2 children = 2
  • 1 sister has 2 children = 2
  • Our parents = 2
  • Grand total = 21 people
It's hard enough to find a restaurant who can fit all of us, much less buy a gift for everyone. Since all of us, as a family, are creative, we decided that this was a good thing to try.

And what a successful thing for us to do!! Over the years I've received a hand painted holiday plate with our names, a set of stockings for everyone in our family, a calendar with a collage of family photos, homemade soaps, jams, no-bake chocolate chip cookie dough, a wooden hope chest, and many more things.

Over time it has not mattered how perfect anything was, just that you planned and thought about the gift and made it thinking about your family.

Now is the time for everyone to think about how their own family can start such a wonderful tradition. It doesn't matter if everything isn't perfect, it's about the love and time taken to think about each of the members of your family.

Upcoming Shop Listings

Before my craft show I had built up a supply of beaded bookmarks. Now that the show is done and I don't have another one planned yet, I decided I had better list some more in my shop. Here are the 12 that I have photos taken and cropped and ready to list. I have listed 3 already tonight. I'm trying to decide if I should just keep listing tonight, or list a few everyday.

I will probably list a few everyday this week to try to spread out my views.

If you see some in the collage and are interested in purchasing it, let me know!

Aren't They Cute?

Thisis a picture of a good times. Aren't they cute? They really seem to get along don't they? Then how come right now, the older one is throwing a fit because the younger one is messing with his action figures. "I had them in a special order!" Life is really good. I will take this anyday. I really will. Silence may be golden, but kids are wonderful.

Yesterday I had a Craft Show

Yesterday I drove down to Alma, WI for the 6th Annual Art and Music Festival. It was a fun-filled day of music, food and meeting people. My friend Nancy and I decided to go in on the booth fee together. She has awesome jewelry that nicely compliments my bookmarks.

Of course, the day didn't go off without some mishaps. We got to the show and there were some very nice gentlemen willing to help us carry our tables and supplies to our spot. Very sweet of them.

So then we start to put up the tent. Now mind you I did not put it together the night before, but I did take the pieces out and really thought I had all the pieces. Famous Last Words.

I'm frantically trying to find the little pvc connector piece that says Gable - Gable. The nice gentleman is trying to pair up magic marker numbers with matching numbers, I'm getting frustrated, Nancy is trying to help, Finally I realize that the second Gable - Gable piece is missing. "How embarrassing!"

But being the make do people we are, we decided that it was a very nice day out, no chance for rain, so who needed a tent anyway!

Otherwise the day was really good. We were first in line on the left hand side of the show. We were surrounded by trees, there was a nice breeze, a flint knapper was next to us which was interesting to watch), all was good! We didn't get rich but had fun anyway!

Plus who could complain about being on the Mississippi River with a breeze over the water. We were at the park that is on the right hand side of this photo. (photo from the Alma Wisconsin website.)
