The Bead Soup Blog Party Arranged and Coordinated by the amazing Lori Anderson! This year I had the wonderful opportunity to trade Bead Soups with the wonderful Maria Sharrow of Willow Street Shops. I love that the Bead Soup Blog Party is about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and stretching your skills. I"ll admit that stringing is not a strength of mine. Asymetrical/Symetrical, clasp, wire, crimps, crimp cover or not, So many questions and answers....So what could have been simple, really pushed me out of my "zone".

My first piece I wanted to focus on the iridescent colors of the feather. In the shade it looks dark, but get a bit of light on it, and you can see blues, greens and lots of shininess! I worked several different versions of kumihimo trying to incorporate some shiny threads. It worked, but now to decide, Kumihimo on the top, Kumihimo on the bottom? Clasp on the back, on the side? And this is what I came up with. and I really like how it turned out..

My second challenge was prying the moth wing pendant from my 7yo dd's hands!! I finally had to agree that it could be hers for special occassions. She already has worn it to school for her birthday! Here are pictures!

I also wanted to use some of the gemstones Maria sent to me. Since I was on a kumihimo kick, I paired the stones with celtic knots and a strand of kumihimo.

And last but not least, some earrings to go with the necklaces!

And let me tell you it is awesome!! I think she was worried because it's hard to pinpoint my style...and she had no reason to be worried! I love everything she sent. I have always admired butterfly wings and feathers incased in solder, but have never tried that. I have soldered some copper and soldering is not something I would call a skill of mine! So I am envious of Rosa's soldering abilities!!

My daughter (6yo) is also envious of my Soup and has already claimed one of the extra pendants. We will have to work together and talk about how we not put all different pieces onto the necklace, like extra paper, clumps of weird colored beads, etc.

I have the soup set up next to my chair so I can think about and image different things to do with my soup! Below are some pictures.

Just look at the irridescent blue on the feather!! Love it!!
We found each other and this is going to be fun! My partner is Maria Rosa from Willow Street Shops on blogger and her etsy shop. As far as styles go, we are pretty opposite. But I think that is actually a good thing. I love being sent out of my box this might do it!

I have put together a couple of soups <we agreed to do this> and I will be putting it in the mail tomorrow. Here are some images of what I have sent!

Of course as everything goes into the package, the "is it good enough" thoughts come about...but I will not let that take over! I look at them and like them so they will have to do.

Take a look at Lori's site to keep an eye on things!rockcreekcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17050603305919080639noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28012201.post-65231267314453473072014-02-23T12:33:00.001-06:002014-02-23T12:33:29.976-06:00It's about to start!!Lori at Bead Soup Blog Party has revealed the Seed Beaders list. I'm sure she's busy working on the rest of the 497 participants to pair them up. I'm excited to be paired and see what my partner likes to do.

Here are my two past creations from the Bead Soup Blog Party...I tend to not like just stringing, I usually have to go a bit overboard and ultra creative. It pushes me outside my box and I really enjoy that! When my partner reads this, just know that I"m not picky, I love surprises, and thoroughly enjoy this process. I'm waiting patiently for the list! LOL
I was picked and it was a bit of a challenge. I received 4 baggies of things and had to use somerhing from each bag. Me being me, I take that literally and think that I need to use them in the same piece. So it was a bit of a challenge. LOL!!

So with the drumming drums, here is what I made. I'm actually a little bit impressed with my creation. I really might wear it.
I thought I would share the links to their sites.

The first giveaway that i won was from Katie Richbourg. She is having a giveaway each friday for awhile. I was lucky to win this!! Max Flame Butane Torch i have not had a chance to use it yet, but i have crwated a bunch of copper rings that need to be soldered, so i'm just waiting for the right time! It was also exciting that 2 days after i received the torch, Katie was on jtv.com and showed how to use my exact torch.

The second gi eaway i have won is from Creative Arty Facts. she is an awesome enamel and lampwork artist. She was experimenting with new colors and i love the color called cardamon, which is a green. I'm so excited because that's the set i won! I'm hoping to make a lighter set of my bead soup blog necklace with these beads. I can't wait!!
She makes some wonderful rugs and sells them on etsy. Except apparently right now when I. Post this. Now she just has some wooden buttons. But those are nice also! It is really too big to think about making a bracelet on, lol but i was really thinking about making some bracelets on a loom.

I did a search online and found this diy video on youtube for making your own loom. I didn't have everything she used, but was able to finagle a useable loom with what i had. Here is the video by beadiful nights. She has a lot of nice videos.

This morning I decided I wanted to make a bracelet using actual looming and not just the wrap bracelet like I have been making. Here are some pictures of an in progress and finished piece. Please ignore the colorful loom. The 5yo is on a nail polish kick. If it doesn't move it might get polished!!
Fortunately it was free because i made a whopping $1.00. (yes my decimal is in the right place.). The good part is i got to spend time with my mom and I met a group of girl scouts that made the last hour interesting.

Now on my table i always have a basket of shiny rocks, usually 2 or 3 for $1. (yes, that's where i made the $1.00. This basket usually has some agates, some quartz, and other miscellaneous stones. I'm always surprised by the different type of parents out there. Some kids will spend a lot of time feeling, looking at and asking about the rocks. They are usually followed by a parent that has no desire to allow for their child's interests. I always want to tell them, it's only a buck!!

So i usually try to explain why having a good rock collection is important. Every kid will have to do atleast one presentation if not one or more a year. What's better than to have rocks that your child is interested in and can talk about. And you guessed it, the child usually walks away empty handed. And just to clarify, i am a parent and i have stepped on many a rock in the middle of the night while checking on my kids. I figure it's little enough to support their interests!!

so i hope that as parents we support and supply those things that interest our children!!rockcreekcreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17050603305919080639noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28012201.post-79384020744682664102012-06-27T22:34:00.001-05:002012-06-27T22:34:47.069-05:00Bead Soup Blog Party!!! Yeah!!!It is time for the 6th Bead Soup Blog Party being hosted by Lori Anderson. She is the master mind behind the concept of pairing two people with dis-similiar styles, having each send the other a packet of beads, and each making something pretty from the beads.

This is the 3rd time I have participated in the Blog Hop and have had a wonderful time. It has stretched my imagination and skills beyond what I thought they would go.

This time, I have the wonderful joy of being paired with Patricia Johnson of http://patricialjohnsonglassart.blogspot.com/.

We have already emailed and I am excited to see what she sends me. She has spent a lot of time working with glass....everything from stained, fused, mosaics, and lampwork. She also seems to be willing to try a different variety of her crafts or crafts her daughters are interested in.

The other interesting thing is: out of the possible 399 other Bead Shop Blog Party participants, who could imagine that I would be paired with another person who is from Wisconsin as well as from a smaller community like mine! Lori Anderson has such a knack for pairing people!!

If you are interested in checking Patricia out, she has a blog, artfire studio and etsy shop.

She has some wonderful glass work and recycled jewelry items. This week is the Virtual Craft show hosted by Lori Anderson of PrettyThings and Bead Soup Blog Hop fame.

In the next few days I will have a spot in the Craft Show and am very excited. My crafting creating experience has been a long and varied path. It started early on at the kitchen table making paper crafts like canoes and teepees, to crocheting, embroidery, cross stitch, dyeing fabric, quilting, weaving, and now finally onto bead embroidery and jewelry making. <oh and="" bead="" ceramic="" making="" pendant="" yeah,=""> After typing all of that I think I definately have crafting ADHD.

Sooo, if you're here for the Bead Soup Blog Hop see below. Are you like me? I've spent the last month or so, working on my Bead Soup project. I haven't worked on much else since then. Now I have a PROBLEM!! What do I work on now!?!
I"ve been looking at my beads, looking at magazines, and I'm really not sure what to work on. I'm hoping to find inspiration soon, because my hands are getting jumpy to get something to work on!!

I was very excited to be paired with Maggie Towne who is a lampwork artist. It really sent me out of my comfort zone because I haven't worked with things with vertical holes....and I've never worked with lampwork. I HOPE that I have done the beautiful nest and blue birds justice!!

For their selves, their children, and our community. One family has started to make these beautiful vases. They are looking into the legalities and logistics of starting their own business selling these vases. It was interesting to help them with some questions, and reminded me that even if you don't fully know the language, questions about legal issues cross all languages. Both parents work adn are raising a wonderful family so this adventure may not turn into anything, but it's interesting to watch their journey!

And aren't the vases beautiful!!

That's all I can say!It is unbelievable the amount of work Lori Anderson has gone through to arrange the Bead Soup Blog Party!! There is an incredible 363 participants in the exchange this year!! And somehow she manages to create perfect pairs.

This is my second year of the Blog Party. I really enjoyed my partner, Deci at Gem Trails and my creation last year.

This year I am very very lucky to be matched with Maggie from BeadTowne and her Etsy Shop. She is a wonderful Lampwork artist.

I'm not sure that I even told her that I have never owned an actual hand crafted lampwork bead! So when I opened my package yesterday I was absolutely in AWE of the beautiful work she does! Just look at the little birdies and the nest with the cute eggs and the little tree and hearts!

BUT! and this is a big BUT, part of the objective of the Bead Soup Blog Party is to push us out of our comfort zone. Well, this has sort of given me a huge shove out of my little box that is my bead embroidery, bead weaving happy, happy self. Now you might think that I am upset by this but I'm not!! It is good, very good make a person's creativity work a little bit.

So thank you Maggie for sending me what you did and I hope I do it justice!!
